About this collection

The E. Jane Gay Photographic Collection is a group of about 450 glass-plate and film negatives related to the area of the Nez Perce Reservation in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.  It contains photographs made by E. Jane Gay during the nineteen months she spent in northwestern Idaho in the summers of 1889-1892 as the companion to Alice C. Fletcher during the allotment of land to members of the Nez Perce Tribe.

The collection also contains some photographs made at later dates by an unknown photographer or phototgraphers in the same area and several miscellaneous photographs collected by Gay or by subsequest owners of the collection.
