Description	Mine Disaster Memorial. This double life size statue was sculptured from steel with welding torch and rod by Ken Lonn to honor the 91 victims of the country's worst mine disaster since 1917 plus all the living hardrock miners of the Coeur d'Alene mining district. 178 miners were working in the world's largest silver mine when fire broke out May 2, 1972. 85 made it out to safety but seven days later only two additional survivors were brought out. The light on the statue's helmet burns perpetually. He holds the miner's typical jack-leg drill. Located between Kellogg and Wallace, Idaho off Interstate 90.
